What is Influenza?
Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious viral infection that affects the respiratory system, including the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause sudden high fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and fatigue, and may lead to serious complications such as pneumonia especially in young children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic conditions.
Annual flu vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and others, and is strongly recommended for those at higher risk.

How it Spreads
Influenza is spread from person to person mainly through infectious respiratory droplets and secretions released during coughing and sneezing.
Transmission can also occur when secretions of an infected person are transferred from a recently contaminated surface (e.g. doorknob, telephone receiver) to the nose or mouth of a healthy person.
Getting Vaccinated
Influenza vaccines help to prevent flu, a common infection caused by Influenza virus types A and B.
The vaccine takes 2 weeks post‑vaccination to develop adequate immunity.
One dose is recommended anually, as influenza viruses constantly evolve and your immunity may decline over time
